DOERS AND/OF DOINGS: A POP-UP SCHOOL is a project by Travis Souza and supported by Sierra Metro Gallery, Edinburgh.
In Janurary 2011 a call went out inviting artists at an 'impasse' in their work to join a month-long school where they would become both teachers and students of each other.
This website is where you will find the ensuing proceedings of the school as they happen throughout the month of Feburary 2011.
Schedule:
Weekend 1: School Opens
Introduction and Welcome by Travis Souza.
Soup and Primus Stove Demonstration by Michael McSorley.
Individual presentations from each artist on their impasse.
An Illustration and enactment of Ranciere's Emancipated Spectator/Ignorant Schoolmaster through breaking a Pinata.
Week 1: Research Phase
Each participant will spend the week reflecting on their peer's presentations and impasses, becoming familiar with their respective concerns and areas of interests.
Weekend 2: Curriculum Crafting Workshop
Based on the previous weeks research and bringing each participant's own personal, everyday, extraordinary, and local knowledge and experiences to the table, the group will in turn craft and curate individual itineraries of actions/experiences/doings each specifically designed to help their peers beyond their specific impasses.
Week 2: Week of Doings
Each participant will carry out their tailor-made itineraries. They will become students of these experiences and document the process along the way.
Weekend 3: Report Back
A public event at Stills Gallery (http://www.stills.org/) on Sunday 20th of Feburary 3-5pm where each participant will narrate the previous week's events and present their documenation.
At this time the school will also discuss how beneficial the previous week had been and how they would like to proceed with the school.
Week 3: TBC
Weekend 4: Closing Event. Saturday 26 Feburary at 6pm.
A closing event organised by the school and open to the public at Sierra Metro Gallery.
